Southeastern Wildlife Exposition The largest wildlife art and nature event in the nation, SEWE has something for everyone. Promoting awareness of conservation and preservation of our natural resources and wildlife, this exposition offers education regarding the human role in wisely utilizing our resources while promoting responsible, active engagement in hunting, fishing and sportsmanship as an important role in both make use of and sustaining our natural resources.
Not only is this exposition beneficial to our natural surroundings, it has, over the past 28 years, become one of the largest generators of revenue for the state with $2.8 in taxes and local economy with over $31 million of estimated out of town expenditures in hotel and restaurant trade with additional income for local tourism, artists, vendors and exhibitors for a total of $67 million of total impact on the local economy.
During the three days of the exposition, patrons will be able to attend many events at over 20 locations in the downtown Charleston area ranging from lectures to art exhibits, contests and competitions. Of course plenty of food vendors and live music will entertain the masses in many of these locations. Exiting live animal activities will be held outdoors such as demonstrations with raptor birds of prey at Francis Marion Square Park and the dock dogs jumping competition held at Brittlebank Park. Other demonstrations and shows with the famous Jack Hanna will be held at the Aquarium. Some events may require a separate ticket purchase in addition to the general admission.
A major aspect of promoting appreciation for the South Carolina Wildlife is through the use of visual arts. There are hundreds of artist from all over the country who participate in displaying two and three dimensional art featuring aspects of nature: wildlife in natural environs, wetlands and seascapes and ocean front terrain. Children are also encouraged to learn through this venue by entering one of several artistic competitions from creating posters with a conservation message to construction of unique artful and useful birdhouses.
Through auditory lecture, hands on participation and visual stimulation using demonstrations and art, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition has discovered the perfect formula to promote awareness and learning while making it fun and interesting for the whole family. Charleston, already known as an art community, adds to its reputation by hosting the wildly popular expo and encouraging patrons to uncover their own artistic preferences, style and possibly their own talent by introducing the concept of supporting conservation and the beauty of nature with the recreation of that beauty in the arts. This wildlife expo brings an annual infusion of new talent, concepts and ideas to the area while continuing to motivate a new generation of children to discover an awareness of the importance of our impact on the environment, develop respect for our surroundings, or perhaps even begin to think in a new way about a career working on behalf of wildlife animals, preservation or environmental conservation.
