Three Incredible Accommodations Values
in Charleston South Carolina

Embassy Suites Historic District If you're a history lover, you'll be pleasantly surprised with what Embassy Suites has done with the original Citadel Campus predating the Civil War. They have enclosed the original courtyard where the cadets held formations and conducted training before moving to their current location two miles northwest on the Ashley River. The location is excellent with two very good restaurants just a half-block away. Coast and Rue de Jean restaurants are right around the corner and are both excellent choices. The City Market is just a ten to fifteen minute walk, and the property is adjacent to the lovely and historic Marion Square. In making your comparison to other properties, you'll want to factor in their full cooked to order breakfast served in what used to be the cadet mess hall and also the two hour manager's reception which offers a complimentary full bar. Given that a glass of house wine goes for five bucks at any local restaurant or bar, that can be a significant added value. For my wife and I, breakfast usually runs about fifteen bucks and one glass of wine each is $10, so that comes to an added value of $25/day.

All Suites Also, keep in mind that you're getting a suite with a separate room with a pull-out sofa and TV. So if you have a kid or two, it works even better. You can have the bedroom to yourself with a King or Queen bed, and if you've ever shared a double bed after being used to a queen or a king, you know how great an advantage that is. Also, if you've ever spent two nights cooped up in the same room with your little ones, I don't have to tell you how fantastic it is to have the other room where they can watch their own TV, and if they're teenagers, they can stay up late without disturbing you.

How nice is it, really? The property is fairly new, built within the last five years, so the rooms and the entire property are in excellent condition. The beds are very comfortable and there is good water pressure.

Rates Check rates online or call Charleston Reservations to book saving 15% off the regular rates by calling 800.310.1292 Mon-Fri 9-5. Special events weekend discount do not apply.

Vendue Inn The Vendue Inn offers one of the best values available for an Inn or Hotel under $250/night. Vendue Range is my favorite spot in Charleston. It's located near a wide variety of some of the best restaurants in Charleston as well as the waterfront park. Also, The Rooftop Bar and Restaurant is the sweetest spot in Charleston for great views and great fun.

The Rooms Most rooms have jetted tubs large enough for a couple. (I think that's a very important distinction.) Each room is decorated differently with luxurious bedding, rugs and window treatments as well as antiques and period reproductions.

Full Hot Breakfast There are very few properties in Charleston that offer a full hot breakfast included with the rate, and no other historic inn.

How nice is it, really?
I think the property is as nice as most four diamond inns or hotels in Charleston. The lobby area is warm, inviting and comfortable. I inspected several rooms and they were all very nice.

Rates The Vendue Inn does require a deposit when you place your reservation, but it is refundable if you cancel at least 72 hours prior to your arrival. Check the rates online

King George IV Bed and BreakfastI think this is one of the best bargains on the peninsula. Most of the ten rooms are around $179/night during high season, even on the weekends. The innkeepers have done a marvelous job remodeling the rooms.

There are many bed and breakfast inns and rooms in Charleston that sell for over $200 that are not nearly as nice. Most have very nice dental molding and high ceilings as well as new bedding and window treatments. We stayed in room six, and it seemed to have more privacy than one would normally expect from a bed and breakfast. The nearest rooms were beneath us or across a hallway, so there was no one next to us.

They offer a full hot breakfast with wide variety of very fresh pastries along with the usual fruit, cereal, and breads as well as juice, coffee and tea. I enjoyed the pictures and paintings in the entrance ways and rooms and the furniture pieces in our room were quite interesting and in very good condition. Our room had a window air conditioning unit, but it was still comfortable and the shower was steady in both pressure and temperature.

The grounds are very, very nice and we were disappointed we weren't staying longer both to enjoy the terraces overlooking the gardens, and the innkeepers, Terry and Debra Flowers. We were a bit disappointed that we didn't have more time to spend just relaxing in the garden, it was quite warm and inviting…and the weather was absolutely gorgeous.

One more thing. There is parking on-site and it is included in the rate. If you've ever parked in a garage and had to climb three flights of stairs to get to your car, you know what a nice plus this can be.
