The Barksdale House Inn, located at 27 George Street is another of Charleston's magnificent residences formerly owned by an affluent family whose names can be found in the who's who of Charleston's history. Once a grand private residence, the Barksdale Inn was rescued from vacancy in the 1980's and has enjoyed continuous updating to keep the silver spoon quality of the rooms and common areas from the slightest hint of tarnish.
The 14 guestrooms, remarkably, each come with a private bath, dry bar and many rooms in the main house have working gas fireplaces to set a mood or take the chill off during the winter holiday season. An array of choices for sleeping arrangements can be had from double full to single and double queen and five guestrooms are king rooms, many of which have whirlpool tubs in the private bath. Rooms and common areas are tastefully furnished and guests enjoy extra homey touches such as polished silver and period china pieces displayed in built-in shelves, adding to the illusion that during their stay, guests are lairds and ladies of the manor. A converted carriage house with four queen rooms and each with a private bath is ideal for out of town groups here for private parties, bridal parties, family reunions and the like.
