Relocating to a new area within a state minimizes the impact of a move. An inner state move takes a period of adjustment to settle into schools, find the best route to work, to find a favored chain of supermarkets, where to get the best prices on everyday items, who are the trustworthy contractors and people in the trades if your new house needs some work…things like that. From one neighborhood to another or even from one side of a state to the other there are adjustments but they are minor.
An interstate relocation, on the other hand, is something more of a challenge. The decision making process and some considerable research is required to choose the state and area best suited to you and/or your family's needs. During a long established residency, one tends to accumulate memberships and licensure in various areas of interest. An interstate move necessitates reapplication for these: driver's license, firearms permit, teaching license, real estate license, to name a few of the more common ones.
Often, with an interstate move, the very move itself consumes one: packing, kids, moving companies, schedules, travel plans etc. so that upon arrival to the new home, one is in a state of confusion as to how to settle in to the new community. Some details that will help to smooth out your transition to the Charleston area in South Carolina, are mentioned here. Some questions you find yourself asking might sound like: Will I have to reapply for any licenses under which I currently operate? How do I go about that application? Who do I see about my utilities?

**You have 90 days to apply for a South Carolina state license. The DMV tends to be fairly efficient in expediting a license exchange. Call for exact information and documentation you will need to bring with you before you may procure your new driver's license. There are several steps that require completion that precede application at the DMV for example you must first pay state taxes on any vehicles at a local statehouse or municipal building. Be specific in asking for all requirements and documentation to avoid several trips.
