West Ashley. . . It was, "West of the Ashley"
when Charleston was only peninsular Charleston,
and especially when there were no bridges
joining Charleston to her nearby neighbors,
West of the Ashley and East of the Cooper. West
Ashley is rising in popularity to people
relocating to the Charleston area due largely
to its proximity to the historic district, but
also because the beaches are so near. You can
follow Ashley River Road, Rt 61 West and North
and you'll find some beautiful riverfront
neighborhoods as well as three plantations that
are open to the public. For visitors, there are
several riverfront hotels, some of which offer
marvelous views and all of which allow you
convenient access to both the historic district
and beaches, but without the hefty price tag.
The Round Holiday Inn as she is known to locals
is a popular spot for lodging, dining and
nightlife offering the city's best high-rise
view of Charleston's waterways.
