Barksdale House Inn Review

The Barksdale House Inn, The Barksdale House Inn, located at 27 George Street is another of Charleston's magnificent residences formerly owned by an affluent family whose names can be found in the who's who of Charleston's history. Once a grand private residence, the Barksdale Inn was rescued from a vacancy in the 1980s and has enjoyed continuous updating to keep the silver spoon quality of the rooms and common areas from the slightest hint of tarnish.

The 14 guestrooms, remarkably, each come with a private bath, dry bar and many rooms in the main house have working gas fireplaces to set a mood or take the chill off during the winter holiday season. An array of choices for sleeping arrangements can be had from double full to single and double queen and five guestrooms are king rooms, many of which have whirlpool tubs in the private bath. Rooms and common areas are tastefully furnished and guests enjoy extra homey touches such as polished silver and period china pieces displayed in built-in shelves, adding to the illusion that during their stay, guests are lairds and ladies of the manor. A converted carriage house with four queen rooms and each with a private bath is ideal for out of town groups here for private parties, bridal parties, family reunions, and the like.

Amenities and extra touches for guest comfort and convenience include the services of the Boniface who assists in planning daily excursions through the town with directions, reservations, and maps. A continental breakfast is complimentary and served with a daily newspaper and fresh flowers and can be enjoyed in the privacy of the guests' rooms or in the courtyard, weather permitting. Turndown service including a chocolate confection sends guests to their rest in sumptuously outfitted four-post or canopied beds.

The location of the Barksdale House Inn centrally places it in the heart of Charleston in the midst of all the activity. In proximity to nearby East Bay Street, Calhoun Street, Meeting Street, King, and Queen Streets The Barksdale Inn put guests literally within walking distance to the French Quarter, shopping, and Historic District and all these areas have to offer.

The location, finery, service, and extremely comfortable rooms and value commensurate with seasonal requirements earn these fine accommodations a 3-diamond*** rating.
